Welcome to Richard Flavin's Washi House! Richard Flavin (1943–2020) was a Japanese paper artist originally from the US. He studied design in Boston and came to Japan in 1970. He later studied woodblock printing and developed a deep interest in the production of washi. He also cultivated the raw material for washi paper, paper mulberry. We invite those interested in washi paper and art to stay overnight and enjoy this space, reminiscent of a washi paper museum, including these unfinished areas.

Located at the walking distance from the most famous sightseeing spots such as Kuradukuri zone(old storehouse zone), Toki-no-kane, Hikawa Shrine etc.

The guest rooms are two Western-style rooms on the second floor. If you wish for barrier-free access or if there are more than 6 persons, we will guide you to a Western-style room on the first floor (open the sliding doors to 16 tatami mats). One person can stay in a private room for the same price. Private rooms can be reserved for 3 or more persons on the second floor only. Please make sure to inform us of your wishes at the time of booking.

TheCampingYard-Higashi Matsuyama

The Camping Yard is a facility designed for both those who like to camp and those who don't like to camp to enjoy it easily. You can put up your favorite tent and enjoy bonfires and BBQ. There are natural hot spring facilities and restaurants serving local food within a 15-minute drive, and a famous local yakiniku restaurant is a 1-minute walk away. Meat can be provided upon request for an extra charge!
