This house was very peaceful with a great view from the deck. The morning hot tub time was very relaxing and a bon fire by the pond was the perfect way to wrap up the night.

This a cozy and comfortable space for exploring the area. Everything was clean, the decor is fun, and every corner is appointed with care and attention. The hot tub overlooking the river is a special treat! Mary Katherine is a kind and responsive host as well. The roads definitely require 4x4 if it’s been raining, but I no problems getting in. This is a wonderful, peaceful place.

We loved our stay here in this wonderful cabin. It was the perfect place to come to and have a relaxing restorative weekend. The cabin is an absolute dream it's plenty cozy and spacious too. Everything we needed was there we didn't leave we stayed here the whole weekend. The fire pit was wonderful as well as the hot tub. The shower was plenty spacious as well. We loved it here and we will definitely be back!

The house was lovely. The space worked great for our family, including 2 grandchildren. Our local relatives joined us for a couple of dinners and fun in the game room. Mountain views were beautiful. We would definitely consider renting this house again.

Enjoyed an incredible Labor Day weekend at Doug's deck! We love coming to this special place and soaking up the view. Our dogs love it too! So many thoughtful extras.

It was great! Very clean and met our needs

We got to live through Hurricane Helene while staying at the cabin. It was a surreal experience. We learned that the community residents in Big Ridge are very friendly and helpful. All the neighbors came together to help each other and received us with open arms and helped us in every way they could. The roads were cleared of debris quickly and we were able to get home within a few days of the storm passing. The property owners checked on us as soon as they could and were as well extremely accommodating. Despite the difficulty experience, I would return to this cabin in the future for sure. The cabin has all the essential you would expect and it’s a great value. It’s perfect for hikes in the Black Mountains, such as Mt. Mitchell.

Primitive enough to call it camping, glampy enough to enjoy doing it! Gorgeous views with a sense of privacy. This is my second staying at Above the Fray and I have enjoyed both experiences! Would highly recommend!

The view was even better in person, a good amount of near by stores, nice weekend getaway.

We really enjoyed our short stay here. The host Lisa was quick to respond to my questions and offered recommendations for our day trip sight seeing. I highly recommend this house if you are looking to connect with the beauty mountains. It is far enough away for peace and close enough to get out and adventure the surrounding towns. The home was well equipped for preparing meals at home. The spa tub was just what I needed after a hike to Linville falls. Five stars!

From the first day we arrived I was in awe , the cottage was very clean with nice relaxing views of the mountains, the swimming pool was excellent, mrs Brenda Brooks was very nice knowledgeable and helpful. She made our stay very nice. I’m planning to go back next year. I would recommend this place to anyone if you want to go for relaxation and a peace of mind. The local supermarket in Burnsville Ingles was excellent. It was so big and it had everything that you could want. I would just like to say thank you Mrs. Brooks for the lovely time at your place.

Beautiful location, cottage is surrounded by bubbling brook, seated in the wooden hillside of Little Switzerland. The winding road is worth the trek for a truly peaceful getaway. The cottage decor is artsy and historic, and the comfy beds make you wanna snuggle under a blanket. The kitchen was well stocked with all the cleaning supplies available. Would definitely book again, perfect weekend!

The house was just the right size and location for our visit. We all felt at home. Will look to use again in the future.

Donna thought everything you need inside the house. The location was perfect for us as we were guests at a wedding at High Pastures. Views were amazing. Driveway was a little sketchy at times but I’m a fan of a little adventure. Overall our stay was perfect!

Gustavo and Isabel's home was amazing. The home looked just like the pictures, and the views from the balcony were beautiful and hard to capture in a photo. My stay was with other colleagues who have never been to the mountains of North Carolina, which made the experience even better. They absolutely loved staying here. There was plenty of room to stretch out and designate a quiet house. We gathered in one home to cook, which was so much fun. It is located deep in the mountain, so stores were a drive away, however, our group didn't seem to mind it at all. It is nearby the peak of Mount Mitchell, which was a great activity to do together. Would highly recommend this listing. Definitely worth staying here again!

We have stayed at many Airbnb rentals and Lisa was by far the best host we’ve had. She made us feel welcomed and was accommodating throughout our stay. She was very responsive in communicating and answered questions quickly giving us all the information we needed to have the best vacation experience possible. The house is simply and beautifully decorated, the view from the back deck is stunning, and there is a sense of privacy and connection with nature. We loved looking at the stars and had a great time enjoying board games she has on hand. Lots to choose from but our son loved playing charades with us. Lots of room to spread out and relax. We love to cook and the kitchen is well-stocked.

Very quite peaceful setting. The kids really enjoyed the lake.
