Birgir's cabin is very snug & warm -- festive with bright red lights -- everything in its nook -- and an amazing perch to see across the valley & short drive to the fjord. Our trip was at the end of December and most days/nights were snowy & with some rain -- very beautiful, but definitely take heed of Birgir's cautions about driving in such weather (which held true, even as we had rented a 4-wheel drive Jeep!) -- it is a steep hill up to the cabin, and we did get stuck on our 2nd to last day -- but fortunately the neighbors in the house down the way were incredibly helpful & we got the car out! We enjoyed exploring Akranes & Borganes. We also did see the northern lights on the one clear night -- beautiful to see the green shimmering curtain of light above the steppes/mountains across the valley. Birgir was both proactive and very responsive.

We had a lovely time staying here! GORGEOUS location and so peaceful. Felt right at home here, it was truly a beautiful stay.

We had an incredible stay at this cabin! The views were absolutely stunning—like something out of a postcard. The host was super helpful and gave us some great local recommendations, including horseback riding at Laxnes Horse Farm and a visit to Hvammsvík Hot Springs, which was just a 30-minute drive away. We also went snorkeling at the Silfra Fissure, another unforgettable experience not too far from the cabin. The location is very peaceful and secluded, so we’d definitely recommend picking up groceries ahead of time and enjoying meals at the house. The hot tub was a huge highlight—perfect for soaking under the stars! A couple things to note: there isn’t a microwave, which would’ve been a helpful addition, and the hot water had that classic Icelandic sulfur smell, which took some getting used to. Still, this place was an easy 5/5. We’d absolutely stay here again!

We had a fantastic stay at house! The apartment was perfectly located. The cozy setup with modern amenities made it feel like a home away from home. Agust was incredibly responsive, providing great local tips and ensuring check-in was seamless. The value for the price was excellent. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Iceland – we’d love to return!

Great spot for our basecamp exploring Pingvellir and fishing the area lakes. Enjoyed the hot tub after long days out exploring. Saw the northern lights. Cozy cabin. Very comfortable bed. Private location despite being close to the circle road.

Wir waren sehr glücklich mit unserem kleinen Urlaub in Andreas sehr gemütlichen und sehr schönen Haus. Alles funktionierte einwandfrei und sie hatte dankenswerterweise alles Notwendige für die ersten zwei Tage bereitgestellt, so dass wir in Ruhe ankommen konnten. Wir haben Ruhe und Erholung gesucht und genossen. Das Haus lag für uns genau richtig, um Ausflüge in den Norden und nach Reykjavik zu machen, die unmittelbare Umgebung ist magisch schön, um viel Zeit draußen zu verbringen oder die Aussicht von der Terrasse oder dem Wohnzimmer zu genießen. Andrea war sehr nett und gut erreichbar. Wir werden uns immer an die schönen Tage erinnern und können das Haus uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Man spürt, dass es mit Liebe errichtet und eingerichtet wurde und es fällt leicht, es mit Respekt zu behandeln.

“The best air b&b we have stayed in”. The guesthouse we stayed in was perfect. The place is extremely clean and well thought out, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The personalised note inside upon check in was such a lovely touch. The hot tub is easy to use and the geothermal water is welcome after a long day of exploring Iceland. The views from the cabin are also breathtaking. Sabine is a great and responsive host, providing really detailed instructions before check in and getting back to queries quickly. We also both really enjoyed our walking tour with her wonderful horses today. Could not recommend this place enough, as my boyfriend said while staying there “I think this is the best air b&b we have ever stayed in”…I couldn’t agree more!!

Very attractive and comfortable cabin in a beautiful area which feels entirely private despite being only an hour from Reykjavik. Great base for hiking or sightseeing. We had five days here and felt we only scratched the surface of what the area has to offer. Cabin is very well and thoughtfully equipped. Matthias was a great host and offered fantastic recommendations of things to do and see. No hesitation at all in recommending.

Was a great stay! Our host was super responsive and very helpful. Beds were very comfortable and had plenty of blankets! The cottage was out of the way, which was exactly what we were looking for! It wasn’t too far away from town, maybe a 30 minute drive.

Elín’s “house of happiness” is nothing short of a dream come true! My husband and I loved every single second at this incredible secluded cabin outside of Selfoss and already dreaming of our next trip back. Elín is a warm and accommodating host, you won’t find a lovelier and more thoughtful host out there. And don’t get us started on the outdoor shower! It has the perfect temperature and pressure! Do not hesitate to book this stay. You’ll be so happy you did it! Thank you, Elín for your hospitality! We’ll be back!

Waren nun zum zweiten Mal in der Unterkunft. Schön ruhig und abgelegen und dennoch sind Selfoss und oder touristische Ziele schnell zu erreichen. Selfoss und der Krater Kerið in ca 15 Minuten und der Nationalpark Þingvellir in 40 Minuten. Ideale Ferienwohnung für 2 Personen die im Urlaub abschalten wollen. Auch der Kontakt mit Steinunn ist schnell und unkompliziert. Nächster Urlaub ist schon in der Planung.

This cabin is perfect! We got to cook a few nights which was nice to stay in during bad weather, it was private, very comfortable, and we got a glimpse of the northern nights one night. It’s also in a good base location and close to many sight seeing attractions. Rannveig was a wonderful host as well, she goes above and beyond making sure we were settled in and doing well. Thank you for a beautiful week!

This place was absolutely gorgeous! Situated in nature but with everything we needed for our family. Highly recommended as a great homebase for Golden Circle activities!

Heerlijk verblijf gehad en genoten van de mooie omgeving! Daarnaast helpt de host je altijd snel met vragen en was alles aanwezig in het huisje om je dagen door te komen. De basis artikelen waren al aanwezig en het huisje is heerlijk. De slaapkamer bovenin in de kruipruimte was wel erg smal. Kom je dus met 4 personen hou er dan rekening mee dat het vrij smal is en even klimmen om bij deze slaapruimte te komen. Bereik was daarnaast ook slecht in het huisje en geen wifi. Al deze punten waren voor ons geen probleem en hebben enorm genoten en zouden het zeker iedereen aanraden!

We had a fantastic time at Straumnes cabins. The cabins are very peaceful, and in a beautiful setting on the lake. We were spending a couple of days doing the golden circle and South coast and the cabin was perfectly located for this. The communication was great, the cabin was well equipped with everything we needed, and lovely and warm. Many thanks to our host for a great stay. We would highly recommend the cabin for family's exploring the golden circle that want a peaceful stay in the countryside.

I've stayed at hundreds of airbnbs and I can tell you you will not find a better host. Stefanie truly looks out for you. She texted me when a storm was coming so I was prepared and not on the roads. She asked how I was doing. It was very clear if I needed anything she was there and that meant so much to me. Her place is such a sanctuary! So cozy and hygge. Highly recommend.

Utrolig fantastisk hytte med skønne omgivelser! Man følte sig hjemme fra man trådte ind af døren. Klart et sted man skal bo på sin tur til Island!

Wir hatten eine so schöne Zeit in Haukurs Unterkunft. Die Hütte ist mit allem ausgestattet was man so braucht, sehr gemütlich und traumhaft ruhig gelegen mitten in der Natur. Der Blick auf den See, der Kamin und der Hot Tub waren unser Highlight. Perfekt um so richtig zu entspannen. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Magnus ha sido un excelente anfitrión. Nos proporcionó toda la información de la cabaña antes de llegar y, además, nos recomendó planes para hacer en Islandia. Siempre respondía muy rápido y ha estado muy atento durante toda nuestra estancia. La cabaña tiene una ubicación excelente y es completamente igual a las fotos. Es muy acogedora y tiene todo lo imprescindible para pasar unos días, ya sea con amigos o con familia. En definitiva, si volviera a Islandia, volvería a elegir esta cabaña, tanto por las instalaciones como por el anfitrión. 10/10.

Amazing stay at Ulrich’s cabin! Spacious and clean with an incredible view. The cabin stayed really well heated and cosy. The hot tub was a lovely addition and was hot throughout the duration of our stay + ample towels. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights from the cabin, it’s far enough away from the city and light pollution so just hope for a clear night! Really good location to access Reykjavík and also join routes like the golden circle whilst still secluded and peaceful. We stayed in March with lots of snow so might be easier to get up road and sloping drive with 4x4. Thank you very much to our lovely hosts!

We absolutely loved Zoei's garden and will definitely return if we find ourselves back in Iceland. Everything was just perfect, from the gorgeous home, to the lovely and well-designed interior to the (OMG) best private geothermal hot tub. Godo the friendly cat was just the icing on top. Zoei's place was well-stocked and had everything our family with 2 littles desired and if I could, I would give her place 10 stars! Definitely our favorite place in Iceland and even a top overall.

This was our family's 4th trip to Iceland and this is by far our favorite place we've stayed at. Words cannot describe how beautiful the setting is. The views of the lake & mountains are absolutely amazing! The cabin is charming and has two large bay windows which provide spectacular views. We felt right at home here. When I had a question, Gudrun was quick to respond. We loved the location. It's private & tucked away in a beautiful area but only 25 minute drive from my friend's house in Mosfellbaer, a lovely town of approximately 15,000 people and has a grocery store and restaurants. The cabin is only a 45 minute drive from Reykjavik. The icing on the cake is that we got to see the northern lights from the cabin! I definitely plan on staying here again in the future.
