This is about as good as it gets: epic views, gourmet kitchen, privacy and seclusion (nearest neighbor 100 yards), hiking trails, well-appointed interiors, fully stocked, and a happy good vibe. The cabin at Chimney Rock is a sanctuary in the forest.

El lugar

Greetings, and thanks for checking out this amazing property.
Secluded and serene 2900 sqft cabin with the best views in Idyllwild. Over 2 acres in the forest shared with abundant wildlife, the front yard with hot tub and double hammock is fenced and nudity friendly. Kitchen with Wolf stove, rotisserie oven and all the culinary amenities you'll need. The entire ground floor is stone throughout. Six fireplaces. Bidet and towel warmer in Master bath. There's nothing like this in Idy. Trophy property for discerning and sybaritic guests.

One week minimum stay. Not for weekends, parties, weddings, etc. This cabin is better designed for artists, writers, nature lovers, monks and those seeking solitude, tranquility, and refuge from the clank of the world. Most homes in Idy are right up next to each other. This cabin is off on its own, in a league of its own.

The ground floor has a mud room, main room with fireplace and wet bar, library, den, powder room, eat-in kitchen, and laundry room. The second floor has a master bedroom with bath (big tub, no shower), a cozy guest bedroom with bath (big shower, no tub), and a TV room in between the two bedrooms.

The village of Idyllwild is four minutes by car. There you will find 11 restaurants (Ferro is our favorite), 2 gas stations, post office, pharmacy, supermarket, health food store, movie theater, and most of what you'll need for your journey into the forest. What we don't have: traffic, parking meters, stop lights, gangs and swat teams. The Idyllwild Arts Academy is a world renown prep school for artistically gifted youth. Idy hosts the annual Jazz in the Pines, as well as many other festivals year round. Even though there is a lot to do in Idyllwild and around, most visitors to Chimney Rock say they don't want to leave or do anything. Relax. Rejuvenate. Enjoy.

This legendary Idyllwild property will probably be here after we're long gone. Let's all steward it for future generations to enjoy.

There is a Guest Manual here for when you arrive to help with many aspects of living in Idyllwild, and at the Cabin at Chimney Rock, to help make your stay more enjoyable. This is not the city: there are not service people on call 24/7, and everything moves slower up here on the hill. Patience is important.

1. We are located in the middle of the forest. There are many kinds of animals which share parts of the property: deer, coyote, raccoons, lizards, stellar jays and woodpeckers. As we say in Idy: "It's us against the critters." Guests need to expect that wildlife is a part of this adventure, and taking certain precautions will ensure that your stay is as happy as possible.
a) Keep both screen doors tightly closed at ALL times after entering and exiting.
b) Food cannot be left out on kitchen counters in the summer.

2. Smoking cigarettes is not permitted on the property. Cigars, pipes and herbs are okay inside. Outside is a great fire hazard due to sudden wind gusts, so heightened care and caution is mandatory when smoking outside.

3. The property is very discrete and hidden. It's up a short dirt road (no Ferraris), and then down a long steep paved private driveway through the fruit tree orchard. The house is perched on a granite boulder outcropping with 270 degrees of amazing views. This residence is not for those with an acute fear of heights, for children, or those with certain disabilities.

4. The cabin comes stocked with linens, towels, spa towels and robes, down comforters. Outdoor cushions must be brought in at night or the raccoons will party and slice them to pieces. In the spring and summer the lower driveway gate needs to be manually closed at night before retiring, or the deer will invade and munch all the roses, grapes, flowers, fruit, vegetables and anything else being grown within the front fenced yard, which is about 1/4 acre.

The Cabin at Chimney Rock rocks. Winston created a special hideaway in the mountains - from gorgeous views to an amazing kitchen to beautifully appointed rooms. We lucked out in our holiday in December. We will certainly be returning in the future. If you enjoy hiking, cooking or taking in majestic views, this is the place for you! The kitchen was fully stocked with all the ingredients and kitchen items that you would want to make a tasty meal. We also used the rotisserie almost every night, which was really fun for us as we love to grill and create fun meals. Plus you have choices of different fireplaces to keep you warm at dinner. The house looks out on to the rugged landscape of the Tahquitz and San Jacinto peaks. From the house you can walk to world-class trails leading into the mountains. We loved the hikes and made it to the top of Tahquitz at about 9,000 ft in the snow. In addition his home is very private – nestled into the mountainside, out of view from the road - we loved that. Winston proved to be a gracious, thoughtful partner in all of this. He was exceptionally responsive. His home is a wonderful example of how much he cares, down to the last detail. He went above and beyond in providing us with needed information about the location of the house and all that was involved in staying there. We loved Chimney Rock during our week stay there. We are ready for more!! If you like to cook, hike, and just hang out in the beauty of nature - this is the spot for you!
