Historic home renovated into the ultimate North Cascades getaway. Skagit Steelhead House is a 2 bed 1 bath basement apartment that is bright, clean and spacious with some truly amazing handcrafted rustic touches. This is the perfect spot to escape into some of the United States most beautiful forests, mountains, and rivers. Nestled at the base of Sauk Mountain and the banks of the Skagit River you have found the perfect launching point for many great adventures. What are you waiting for?

El lugar

The home dates back to 1920 where it started life as a railroad station supporting the gold and logging booms that put Rockport on the map. In the 1940s it was made into a restaurant called the Tourist Tavern. In the 1980s ownership changed hands and so did the name, as the home became the Fish Inn. In 2009 the decaying Fish Inn was literally lifted off its foundation, a new basement dug, a new foundation laid, and a new life poured into an amazing piece of history. After years of careful renovation the home is ready to host another century of guests, families, children, fishermen, hikers, rafters, climbers, and outdoor lovers to the slice of heaven that is the Skagit River and the North Cascades.

In the renovation as many local crafters and materials were sourced as could be found. Many touches came from the forests and the hands of those that call the North Cascades home every day.

- The bench in the entry was milled by a local wood worker in Concrete out of a solid slab of Douglas Fir.

- The doors and trim for the bedrooms and bathroom were crafted by a local Rockport man that personally salvaged the old growth Fir logs out of the forest and had them helicoptered to his mill.

- The Steelhead carving (that is our homage to the Skagit River) was carved and stained by hand, first with a chainsaw and then with the detail brushes of a fine watercolorist.

- The king bed and matching dresser in the river bedroom were handcrafted by small furniture maker in BC out of reclaimed barn wood.

- The shelves in the dining room and river bedroom were made from salvaged 2x6 lumber from the original construction.

Special attention was always paid to keep as much of the spirit of area in the home as possible while still giving the home and modern and comfortable feel.

Disponible para huéspedes

You will have access to the backyard which leads down into Howard Miller Steelhead Park. The park boasts a boat launch (for power and drift boats alike), playgrounds, and a hiking trail that follows the Skagit River West along the former railroad bed high banks.

In warmer months lounging chairs will be provided. Also the ability to use the fire pit on the west side of the backyard (firewood is not supplied) will be allowed during warmer months (please alway abide by any burn bans in effect).

Atención a los huéspedes

I am available via phone (text primary or calls secondary) should you need anything. You will likely not interact with me in person as I visit Skagit Steelhead House myself when it's not being rented.

When the home was renovated it was split into 2 separate living spaces. The upper level of the home has a family that are full time residents. You may meet them and you may not. We ask that you please be respectful of them and to keep noise within reason and any interactions cordial.

Otros aspectos destacables

There is a Twin air mattress and a set of sheets in the armoire should you need it.

Ryan’s place was a great base for exploring North Cascades NP. He was an extremely responsive host both before and during our stay. His place is clean, spacious and well appointed. After three long days of hiking it was a great place to unwind.

Loved our stay in the tastefully renovated Skagit Steelhead House! Very comfortable, nice touches of northwest flair and located steps away from the river. If you're looking for peace and quiet or want to get away from it all, you can't go wrong with the Skagit Valley. Skagit Steelhead House makes a great base to explore the Skagit River Valley as well as North Cascades National Park, which is less than an hours drive away. What an amazing part of the world!

We sincerely enjoyed our stay in Rockport. Ryan was an excellent host and great communicator. The location was perfect for us as we did the hidden lake lookout hike and explored the north cascades. The unit itself was nicely done and everything was as described. Rha

An easy going, mellow, funny, outdoor loving dude that enjoys sharing stories over a cold beer, a roaring fire, while being amongst small (and large?) woodland creatures. I also enjoy having hockey pucks shot at me and wetting a line in search of trout & salmon. Just not at t…
