This is my favourite place nearby on the canal. It's only open part of the year because it's mostly outdoors (right by the canal) but the lunches are superb and they do good coffee and cakes too. Open for dinner on some evenings and also open for breakfasts (though I think breakfast is not as good as lunch there). Serves good wines too.

Start at the west end and walk east then at the end you can walk down Brick Lane - particularly interesting on a Sunday. Lots of other interesting shops in the Shoreditch area plus the Spitalfields market is not far away.

Not a big fan of Tesco but it is sometimes useful! And it's right by Haggerston station so you can get stuff on the way back to the flat.

Victoria Park is about a 20 minute walk from the flat and is very nice on a sunny day. There is a small food market on Sundays and the Pavilion cafe next to the lake does great breakfasts (check times) and just about the best flat white coffee in London.
