It’s 5 minutes from the barn and Coverack is a little known jewel, a sheltered bay with a sandy beach at low tide, a few gift shops, cafes, a well stocked village shop and a friendly water sports centre.

Great place for lunch if you are visiting St Michael’s Mount. Fantastic views across the bay and you can walk a long way round the bay on the beach at low tide. Beware-Marazion gets VERY busy in Summer. Go early. Check the tide times for the Mount. The gardens are well worth a visit.

A fabulous beach, that is regularly featured in magazines and social media, about 20 minutes drive from the barn. Check tide times as there isn’t much beach at high tide. There is an approx 1km walk down a track to the beach where there are toilets and a good cafe. Great for sunsets. WARNING in summer the car park is full by 11am, no matter what tide.

Food scene, local pub

You have to park outside Helford village and walk through it to get to this pub, but the village is so beautiful it’s not a hardship! The pub has great views, lovely open terrace by the river. Good food, recommended by our guests. Gets very busy, best to book.

Kurt Jackson is a local artist who has become famous for his evocative modern paintings of Cornwall. Well worth a trip to the “far West”, to this old mining village that has a modern world class art gallery in it.

Terence Coventry was an internationally recognised sculptor who lived and worked in Coverack. The park overlooks the sea, is full of wildflowers and is free to enter. The statues represent natural forms, mainly animals and birds. A hidden gem of a place to visit.

An incredible sight, a theatre amphitheatre perched on a cliff out of which it is carved. Worth finding out what performances are on and booking well ahead, tickets are not expensive. People take picnics and eat before performances. Check the weather forecast and take waterproofs etc if needed. An hours drive from the barn but worth it.

A small farm shop full of local goodies, butter, cream and milk straight from the farm, fantastic fresh fish from nearby Cadgwith, local bread, eggs, cakes , vegetables and much more. Check updates on Facebook
The clotted cream, butter and milk are part of the welcome pack for our guests, the double cream is amazing on things like crumble. Phone or check Facebook if you want fresh fish. This year we have feasted on scallops, crab, bass, turbot...to name a few...

Vineyard

Just the other side of Penzance, around 45 minutes drive from the barn, is Polgoon Vineyard. Tours of the vineyard and wine tasting can be booked online. There is a cafe serving a small menu and a shop brimming with wine, cider, fruit juice and many other products and gifts. Well worth a visit
Great for gifts to take home and “try before you buy” tasting of wine and cider. We particularly love the cider and lemonade

Our absolute favourite place to eat. Tiny place in St Keverne nothing to look at from the outside, but the food.....wow. Everything is homemade by Neil and Leonie from the sourdough to the gelato and everything in between. Simply fabulous food. Go hungry, short well chosen menu, large portions but save room for dessert or cheese. Great value. Book well in advance. Check Facebook and website for menus.

An open air lido, recently restored, on the seafront in Penzance. Now has heated geothermal pool as well. Events for children in high season and a good cafe. The water (apart from the geo thermal bit) is very bracing!

Spend a magical hour and a half on this small boat cruising up the hidden creeks of the magical Helford river. Great commentary from friendly knowledgable Boat pilot. Timings depend on the tides and you will need to book online well ahead. Drive to Budock Vean hotel and walk down through the hotel gardens to the river. Highly recommended.
