Hatcher Pass is our absolute favorite place to be in the summer (and winter too). It has lots of hiking trails, Little Su River and streams abound. Catch glimpses of whistling marmot, beaver, and ground squirrels. Independence Mine is a fun excursion for tourists looking to here about the Gold rush era and see remnants of the old mine. You can take a short half hour drive from our place to Independence Mine or take a long trek all the way down the other side of the pass to Willow and back around.

Visiting in early or late summer? Visit this extraordinary travel spot of thousands of migratory birds. Reflections Lake sits Palmer Hay Flats Game Refuge and is home to hundreds of bird species and wild game. The lake, about a mile in circumference has a nice path all the way around, as well as, a look out tower to observe wildlife. It is a very serene place in early morning.

The butte is a great option for a phenomenal view with just a bit of a hike. There are two trails to choose from. The south trial is a bit steeper, parking lot is privately owned, and amazing views all the way up. The north trail is much longer but is maintained by the borough, and includes stairs and a well groomed trail but less views until closer to the top. The views from the top are amazing and worth the short vertical hike.
