The Bendigo Art Gallery can be accessed by V-Line Trains from Souther Cross Station in the city. It's a 2 hour train journey, with about a 15 minute walk to the Gallery.
The Gallery has some amazing exhibitions, so check their website and purchase tickets before you go.
Bendigo is an old gold rush town established in the 1800's. It has some gorgeous old buildings and burgeoning art scene.
It also has an interesting Chinese Museum detailing the history of Chinese miners during the gold rush period in the 1800's.
A return trip to Bendigo can be done in a day, but I recommend taking your time.

Tram timetables - Tram Tracker App for iOs, unfortunately there is no longer one for other formats.
Public Transport Victoria app- provides a journey planner across trams, trains and buses. It also allows you to add extra money onto your Myki card. Myki cards can be purchased at any 7-Eleven or Train station and at some other venues.
