This cheery little cafe is a great place to pop in for a cup of joe and a "nolache" (their version of a kolache). The staff is super friendly. It is part of the ministry of the Bethel Community Baptist Church, which provides a residential, faith-based treatment program for men, women, and women with children. The not only give 100% of their profit to the ministry, but also provide employment opportunities for graduates of the program.

Rocket Science is a funky salon that is killing it at cuts and color. They are full-service hair salon as well as offering waxing and nail services. The owner is a good friend of mine and the salon reflects her style and her dedication to keeping the men and women of New Orleans looking and feeling great.

This is a wonderful and beautiful state park just across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. It's a great place to go for a little day trip. There are lots of walking paths, a small lakefront beach, and a bike path. If you don't want to pack a picnic, it is really close to the cities of Mandeville and Covington where there are plenty of restaurant options.
