Giacopazzi's is an absolute must! Even if you're not in the mood for EXCELLENT fish and chips, their ice-cream is absolutely NOT to be missed. My favourite is the Kinder Bueno flavour, but they regularly have specials, including vegan options.

The Ship is excellent for a meal or drinks, and is dog friendly, with outdoor and indoor spaces. The cocktails are amazing too!

Royal Garden is a Chinese restaurant and takeaway in Berwick. The food is fantastic, and I have to do a special shout-out for the Dim Sum, as it really is incredible!

Sightseeing

A truly excellent day out with a pleasant circular walk! One for the muddy boots, and take a water bottle. Edin's Hall Broch is one of the very few Iron Age brochs in lowland Scotland, surrounded by the remains of a fort built around 2,500 years ago. I would recommend taking a picnic to enjoy with the views of the surrounding hills.

Coldingham Bay is a gorgeous beach, with a lovely Café serving hot and cold foods as well as Giacopazzi's ice cream. If you are walking to St Abbs or Eyemouth along the Coastal Path, I would recommend parking here as it is free!

Cove is a STUNNING, tiny harbour, which is not accessible by road. You park up at the top of the cliff, and follow the path down before passing THROUGH the cliff, through a wee tunnel previously used for storage by the local residents. It's an unforgettable place and well worth a visit and a wander round!

Holy Island (also known as Lindisfarne) is a beautiful tidal island off the Northumberland Coast, and is a fantastic day out. There you can enjoy the Lindisfarne Centre, where you can learn about the first recorded Viking attack in history, which took place on Lindisfarne in 793AD. If that makes you thirsty, head to the Lindisfarne Mead shop and tour, then watch the sun set over the Castle. Just be sure of your tidal crossing times!! They can be found here: https://holy-island.info/lindisfarnecastle/

Bamburgh is only 40mins away and is a beautiful place to visit. The castle there has been used as a filming location for Bebbanburg in The Last Kingdon, Wentworth Prison in Outlander and even in the fifth Indiana Jones film! Whether knights in shining armour is your thing, or the Armstrong Aviation museum, you will definitely find something to interest you.

Alnwick Castle and Gardens are amazing to visit! And the keen-eyes Harry Potter fans among you will recognise Alnwick Castle as the location for the broomstick training scene from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. You can even have your very own lesson! The gardens are not to be missed either, with EVERYTHING to see, including their world-famous Poison Garden. The tickets for the Gardens and the Castle are separate, but I would recommend going over two days to sample both, as they are well worth the price of admission.

Chillingham Castle is a 13th century stronghold in Northumberland. I cannot emphasise enough how stunning this place is. And it is chock full of really interesting antiques and historical artefacts, like letters from royalty such as Mary Queen of Scots, Edward the 1st of England, who executed William Wallace to death. There are even incredibly rare giant auroch antlers casually hanging above the tea room! I highly recommend buying the wee guidebook from the gift shop as you enter, as the sassy commentary from Sir Humphry Wakefield, the owner, are hilarious. Just make sure you don't insult the place or nick anything, as otherwise the Spanish Witch's curse will follow you!
