Traditional pub with great pub food, locally sourced and lovingly cooked by Jo, the owner. Low ceilings throughout the pub add to the cosiness with oak beams and inglenook fireplaces. Very cosy with roaring fire in winter, outside seating in summer. Can also do takeaway. www.ringobellshinton.co.uk

The Crown Pub in Wells is where Hot Fuzz was filmed. Worth a visit if you're a fan. And even if you are not! It's in the old market square and is a 15th century Grade II listed coaching inn. 6 mile drive https://www.crownatwells.co.uk

City/town information

Our closest city is Wells. A large village really but has city status because of the Cathedral. Visit the Cathedral, Bishops Palace, market square, food&crafts market every Wednesday and Saturday. There are resident swans in the moat around the Bishops Palace - https://bishopspalace.org.uk/attractions/swans/

Ham Wall never fails to delight. With its beautiful scenery, amazing birds (many migratory) and great walking we go regularly. Ham Wall has visitors from far and wide in the winter months to witness the starling murmurations. If you are staying at that time I would definitely recommend - it is an incredible sight. There are other sites also on the levels we enjoy - Shapwick Heath and West Hay particularly. https://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/ham-wall/

If you fancy a walk without going out in the car the entrance to Prestons Wood is directly across the lane from the gate. A small pretty woodland (often muddy) can be a start to then exploring some of the fields and lanes around us. If you've not brought appropriate shoes, just follow the lane around - turn right out the gate and take the right fork each time and you will go round in a circle taking about a half hour. For longer, when you come to a meeting of 4 lanes there is one with a black barrier across stopping traffic. You can walk up that to an open meadow at the top.

National Trust & Historic Houses

There are numerous historical places and houses to visit within about 30-40 minutes drive. This is a favourite. Food scene

Where to buy fresh food.
If you find yourself near Draycott near Cheddar look out for Warrens Farm Shop. They grow their own strawberries here and they are a taste sensation! They don't come any fresher - picked and put on the stall that day. You can even buy a punnet (or more), a carton of cream and sit on the picnic tables overlooking the Somerset Levels.
