Falmouth has a wide variety of restaurants, from fish, tapas and caribbean to african..! We like The Shed, does great cocktails and a mixed menu, their sister restaurants next door - The Shack (fish) and The Ranch (steaks) are also good. they are all in Events Square down by the Maritime Museum, also worth a visit and in the summer there is usually something going on, or you can just watch the yachts milling about. Cubanas is another fav, good tapas and fixed menu. If you like shellfish THE place to go is The Wheelhouse, they only serve, Crab, mussels, lobster, oysters and scallops in season and prawns, chips, bread, salad, red or white wine. Its down an alley and you will need to book well in advance of your stay.

Marazion has lovely beach walks and when the tide is out you can walk across to the Mount. Marazion has a couple of good restaurants. The Goldolphin Arms, Bens Kitchen or the Mount Haven Hotel.

The Lizard Peninsula is the southernmost point of the UK. It is unspoilt, unlike Lands End. The coastal walks are stunning. Definitely worth a visit - Kynance Cove, its National Trust now so will have to pay for parking, worth the walk down to the beach, small cafe at the bottom. For chocolate lovers and rainy days theres the Chocolate factory, where there is also artists co-op and restaurant.

Falmouth has enough to see and do for a day trip, its a beautiful harbour with lots going on. Its the closest main shopping town for all your essentials, surf wear, art and charity shops...! At the end of the town is the Maritime Museum, and Events Square, the first two weeks in August is Falmouth Week, with lots of sailing regattas and music. In October is The Oyster Festival. Further on through and past the town is the Docks, always interesting to see what ships are in Port. You can park near the docks and walk all the way around The Point and up to Pendennis Castle, where you can get a good view of the penisula and across to St. Mawes and they're castle..! (If you fancy a closer look you can get a ferry across from the town). Continue walking around the point and you get to the sea front and the beaches, where you can have a well deserved cream tea or glass of something, in the beach cafe or one of the hotels.

Parks & Nature

Nature is all around you in Cornwall, so its difficult to pick a favourite. This is nice round trip walk, and you have a good restaurant and gallery to mooch round at the end of it..!

The beach, which is tidal, so check before you go...! is stunning turquoise sea, surrounded by great rock formations and has lovely walk down to it, so not suitable for everyone as its a bit of hike back up. Theres a small cafe at the bottom. The car park at the top is National Trust, so you will have to pay, unless youre a member. If you dont fancy the walk down there is the coastal footpath running around the cove, so you could park and hike.

Restored to its former glory by Tim Smit of Eden Project fame, I prefer this to the Eden Project. You can meander through the formal gardens, veg garden (where they grow the food for the restaurant) and then take a walk through the sub tropical and ancient plants around the 200 acres of garden. Dogs on leads welcome.

Arts & Culture

**The Tate at St Ives is closed for a year for renovation** However, The Barbara Hepworth Studios are open and worth a visit, they are just how she left them, with some iconic pieces dotted around her garden. St Ives has a large quota of Art Shops selling local artists work. It gets very busy down in the town in the summer and the streets are narrow, so i recommend the park and ride car parks at the top of town. Theres a good selection of restaurants in the town but would say maybe sight see in town and eat else where...... Porthminster Beach Cafe, great view, right on the beach, can be pricey. Carbis Bay Hotel on the beach has a stunning outlook and a beach bar , but can be pricey. In Carbis Bay just off main road to St Ives is La Casita, tapas, pizza and great fish specials, open from 6pm is our must go to restaurant.

This is a unique experience, watching great performances on a cliff top, overlooking the sea and under the stars. We went a few years ago to watch Mid Summer Nights Dream and it was a full moon, amazing..! Advisable to book in advance, you will need a cushion (can hire one with a backrest at the theatre) and warm clothing (gets chilly at night) and can be hot for matinee performances, theres no shade. Nice to take a picnic.
