New and wonderfully renovated pub run by Thatcher's Cider who are based next door. Wide range of ciders (and ales) great food, and wonderful setting. Wander off in the the sweet smelling cider orchards in summer. A good destination if you want to cycle from Cheddar along the old Strawberry Line railway path (approx 7 miles including through a tunnel!)

Drinks & Nightlife

Our favourite pub. Totally unpretentious, not even a sign outside. But friendly, great beers, good simple food (try the soup of the day). Can be chilly in winter despite open log fires (so take a warm jacket). Outside loos can be chillier still. But all part of the character. Also a good destination to cycle to, along Strawberry Line to Thatcher's Cider and on a bit along back lanes.

Parks & Nature

Britain's best know gorge, with the UK's highest inland cliffs. A great 2.5 hour walk around the edge directly from the cottage. Quite hard on initial climb but then stunning views in to gorge, across to Glastonbury Tor, to Exmoor and to Wales. The caves in Cheddar are natural wonders and full of history. "Cheddar Man" was discovered there - at over 9,000 years old Britain's oldest discovered skeleton. Remarkably DNA testing found the local history teacher was a (very) distant relative.
