Food Scene

The Admiral is that quintessential hole in the wall that happens to the best fine dining restaurant in town. From the outside it looks like a shoe box, and when you get in it feels like a shoe box, but the food is out of this world. If you don't believe me go ahead and Yelp it...

This is my "Cheers" and I love it oh, so much! I love the staff, I love the food, and I love the vibe every time I walk in. WALK as its known is a place you can bring the whole family for good Americana food: sandwiches, burgers, wings, and the sort. They also have the best specials menu in town with the chefs constantly making amazing dishes that blow the taste buds away. They have a full bar, and 16 taps constantly rotating with local faves...

Ever tried Lebanese cuisine? If so - GO! If not - Still GO! Gypsy Queen started off as a local food truck and then got so popular they could not keep up with the demand and opened up a full restaurant. They have amazing falafel! And remember seeing the end of Avengers when they were eating Shwarma? Well I'd never had Shwarma, and then after the movie I saw it on GQ's menu and just had to try it. Its now my favorite dish!

Jamaica has landed in Asheville. At least the food has. If you like jerked food, or any kind of Caribbean cuisine Nine Mile is the place to go. Their original location is still in Montford, but I prefer the Haywood Rd option. I highly recommend reservations unless you're going between 5:00 - 6:00. After that it fills up.

Who doesn't like chicken and waffles with a Bloody Mary on Sunday? King Daddy's has an awesome ala carte menu that will not leave you disappointed. It is owned and operated by the owners of Early Girl Eatery located downtown. Both are real treats to enjoy.

The Roberts street is the original location and happens to have a special place in my heart. I have been coming here for years for lunch and one day Nancy was there and saw me sitting alone at a table eating and apparently took an interest in me. She didn't know my name or who I was. When she placed her order and came back out I was already gone. She went back and told all her girlfriends about "this really _____ guy" she saw there. I was then (and still occasionally) referred to as the "White Duck Taco Guy". As fate would have it and Asheville being very small, we formally met 3 months later at Clingman Café and we've been together from that moment on. Go to White Duck for the food, because its really good, but you also might leave with some good fortune coming your way also!

Drinks & Nightlife

Owned and operated by world famous chef and restaurateur, Katie Button (Curate), this place is cool. Great drink menus, posh décor with a little eclectic mixed with. And the dessert menu is the best in town.

I know speakeasies are supposed to be just that, but Cascade it my go to cold and rainy day dimly lit bar with low ceilings, small pub tables, and awesome cool locals. Its small, drinks are cheap, and the building its it also has a coffee shop, produce stand, and always has alternating food trucks in the parking lot.
