Located in the historical city center, between Via Po and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, these gardens are the perfect place for a stopover on the shaded benches or a little play time with the kids. The Aiuola Balbo has a regular shape, with a large fountain in the center. From there a few steps lead to the beautiful Cavour Park, known as "the Montagnole", for the presence of small hills full of majestic trees.

Arts & Culture

The Cathedral of Turin is dedicated to the Saint Patron of the city: St John. Turin's cathedral was built between 1491 and 1498 on the site of three 14th-century basilicas and, before that, a Roman theatre. The church has a Renaissance style façade made in white marble with three portals decorated with reliefs. In the XVII century, the Cathedral was enlarged and it was added a chapel for the Holy Shroud, a real Baroque masterpiece made by Guarino Guarini. The Chapel hosted for long time the famous relic of the Holy Shroud (alleged to be the burial cloth in which Jesus' body was wrapped after the crucifixion and on which Jesus' body was wrapped after the crucifixion).

The church of Gran Madre di Dio is a Neoclassic-style church located in front of Piazza Vittorio Veneto, at the western side of the bridge dedicted to Vittorio Emanuele I. The church was conceived in 1814 to celebrate the return of the King Victor Emmanuel I of Sardinia to the throne, after the defeat of Napoleon, and its architecture recalls the Pantheon in Rome. In 1969 the church was memorably featured in the film The Italian Job when Michael Caine and his gang drove their Mini Coopers down the front staircase.

Turin's central square is lined with museums, theatres and cafes. The city's Savoy heart, although laid out from the mid-1300s, was mostly constructed from the 16th to 18th centuries. From the square you can admire some of the most important town buildings: the austere Royal Palace, the beautiful Madama Palace, the Teatro Regio, the Palace of the Regional Council, the Government’s Palace, the Secretariats, the Royal Armory and the Royal Library, containing the famous self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci. Piazza Castello is also the meeting point of the four major streets of Turin: Via Roma, Via Pietro Micca, Via Po and Via Garibaldi, one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe.
