Food scene

This is the meat palace - and Namibian meat, especially the beef, is very, very good. Just the decor and setting in a huge but intimate court yard is worth it. I advise booking in advance, as it is is very popular.

Sightseeing

Sadly, this place is only open during office hours because it is a government institution - but it is worth the trip for the succulent garden of rare indigenous species.

This is right next to the Christuskirche and Alte Feste, as well as the Independence Memorial which is perhaps the most bizarre sight to see in Windhoek. There is a not-great restaurant on the 4th floor and great views over the city. Next door is the old Tintenpalast and parliamentary gardens, a pleasant place to stroll through on hot days.

Best bookshop in Windhoek, just two blocks away from The Last Outpost. The roads in Namibia are long and take many hours to drive - five hours to get to Etosha National Park, for example. Get yourself a book, you won't regret it!
