Agra Fort was built in the year 1573 under the reign of Akbar – one of the greatest Mughal Emperors. It took more than 4000 workers and eight years of hardship to complete the fort. Knowing the significance of its location, Akbar built the fort to make it the main residence of the Mughals. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. ... In 1983, the Agra fort has been inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage site. It is about 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal.

Itimad-Ud-Daulah (Mirza Ghiyas Beg) was a Persian noble. He visited Mughal court and became a court member. He soon became the lord treasurer of Akbar. His daughter Nur Jahan was very passionate and had strong administrative ability. The term Itimad-ud-Daulah means pillar of the state and it denotes Nur Jahan's father who was a minister in the court of Mughals. The Itimad-ud-Daulah tomb is the first marble mausoleum in the country. It is located on the banks of the river, which gives an additional aesthetic effect to the tomb.
