Sightseeing

A great spot for hiking, biking, fishing, boating, picnicking, and enjoying lovely views. There is a trailhead on the west side of the reservoir that will take you to the top of Horsetooth Rock, named for it's resemblance to the gap between a horse's front teeth.

Fort Collins has ~30 natural areas that have been preserved for public use. These areas range from prairie to wetland to foothills to mountains. One could stay busy for months seeing them all. Be sure to check hours and conditions before you go, dress for the weather and take water with you, and park only in designated spots...parking enforcement at FCGOV Natural Areas is quite thorough. :) We recommend Coyote Ridge for a fairly easy walk ending with great views, Riverbend Ponds for river scenery, or Cathy Fromme Prairie for grassland views and bird watching. A full map and listing can be found here: https://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/pdf/natural-areas-map.pdf?1587569346

Gateway is a natural area just a short drive up the Poudre River canyon, and is owned and managed by the City of Fort Collins. There was originally a water treatment plant there many years ago. It's a lovely place to go for a picnic, throw a frisbee or football on the lawn, or take a stroll by the river. Day use fee is $7 and an annual pass is $40. We love it and often visit for family BBQs.

Solid place for American food: steaks, ribs, rotisserie chicken and all the usual side dishes. There are two Austin's locations in the Fort, Old Town and Harmony Rd . Both have the same great food and interior ambiance, but the Old Town location is favored by out of town visitors due to the wide range of other things to do in the area before or after a meal.
