Sightseeing

The village of Stoke Gabriel, South Devon, is situated on a creek of the River Dart and is a quintessential English Village. Steeped in history and surrounded by beautiful countryside, this rural parish nestles into the green rolling hills of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Quay is the perfect place for children to go crabbing, and there are beautiful walks along the riverbank or through the old apple orchard and winding streets of the village. This beautiful village retains its historic roots from the 800 year old yew tree in the churchyard to its gentle tangle of cottages leading down to the river where locals have fished for Dart Salmon for centuries. The village is popular with boating enthusiasts because of the ready access to the Dart. There are pubs, local shops and a post office all within walking distance. There are so many things to do in Stoke Gabriel – enjoy the open countryside by foot, bicycle, buggy (for those smaller visitors), sail or motor. The river is a wonderful opportunity for recreation, and there are many open spaces to enjoy - particularly the Mill Pool, the parish orchard and the prize winning Hoyle Copse. Or if you'd rather, just relax and enjoy friendly atmosphere of the pubs, riverside bistro and tea room. This is our local village and is around 1.5 miles away, there is a great walk you can do from the shepherds hut which basically follows our stream down to the River Dart though lanes and woods! This is a favourite of mine.

Just one of the best beach's in the area. You can follow the coastal path over to Brixham if you fancy a good walk. Babbacombe Model Village is Torquay's most popular and visited attraction. Representing British life and culture over the last five decades all in miniature. Animated scenes, along with touches of very English humour bring it all to life. Taking you on a fun, informative and nostalgic trip through the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s to present day, it has appeal for all ages. Famous for its lovely setting in 4 acres of award-winning gardens that are a delight to experience all year round. Babbercombe also has a good beach and a cliff railway which is next to the model village. Its great day out. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186259-d592536-Reviews-Babbacombe_Model_Village-Torquay_English_Riviera_Devon_England.html

This Best bet is get there early as parking is limited you can also catch a small passenger ferry over the River Dart to Dittisham which is a small village with a cafe and a pub! nationaltrust.org.uk/greenway

Mild ocean breezes, sandy beaches and swaying Torbay Palms give the small English town of Torquay a distinctively Mediterranean feel. More than just a beach spot, Torquay boasts an enormous coastal aviary and the famous Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves. Agatha Christie spent most of her life here, and the city is now home to multiple film companies. With such a rich literary history, Torquay may be the perfect place to finish writing that novel or screenplay, or just to relax with a good mystery. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Tourism-g186259-Torquay_English_Riviera_Devon_England-Vacations.html

One of the brightest jewels in the English Riviera’s crown, as you arrive in the seaside resort of Paignton, you are met with the welcoming sight of its long stretch of beautiful and easily accessible beachfront, promenade, traditional pier, colourful beach huts and green. What's great about Paignton is that it is a compact resort, with the seafront and town centre shops all within close proximity, making it an ideal Devon holiday resort for that relaxing break away. Once you arrive, you don't have to go far, but of course, there is plenty to see and do in the area if you wish to get out and about and explore. https://www.englishriviera.co.uk/explore/the-english-riviera/paignton
