Food scene

This place is a must visit! Ahoy is actually an indoor playpark for kids as well as a ice-cream parlor in summer. At night it becomes "Ahoy Afterhours" where they offer rum tasting, wine tasting along with Escape Rooms (Call the owner Danika or Brigitte ahead to reserve your Escape Room...Don't show up in heels and dress pants...you will need to climb the structure and find clues in their gigantic play-structure!. From Thursday-Sunday in the summer they also have a "beach inspire patio" where you can have pirates and mermaid inspire drinks (and normal drinks as well). Bucket of fun drink anyone? Check them out on Facebook at Adventures Ahoy Adventures and Ahoy After hours (Don't forget, they also have a really awesome food menu that can be shared!!! Check it out...these 2 owners deserve a HIGH FIVE for all the hard work and resilience they have put into their newly open (3 week prior to COVID) business!!!

Thai Food anyone?!! This asian bistro has been in our town for about 10 years now and has always been a local favorite. The food is fresh and delicious and authentic! They do not deliver, but you can either pick-up or dine in. My personal favorite is the chicken pad Thai and my husband is the spicy beef dish. Its like 5 min drive from the cottage, located just beside the LCBO on the Principal Street.

Cheese Factory

Best Cheese curds in the whole world!!! If you are a cheese lover, this place is worth the visit. Located in the nearby town of St-Albert, located 10 min from the cottage. The original factory was unfortunately completely destroy by a fire in 2013 and was rebuilt from the ground up back in 2014. The new installation provide visitors with the opportunity to watch the cheese maker make the cheese from the up-stair area...when you are there make sure to look for it...its located on-top of the restaurant and is also wheelchair accessible. If you are looking for the real juicy "squeak squeak" of the cheese curd, make sure to grab a bag from the shelf please...not the fridge :-) Trust me you will thank me for this piece of advice!!! The factory also has a ice-cream bar, a chip-stand style restaurant with a large in-door dining area and a large patio area that wraps around the whole building. Usualy (in pre-covid world) they also host a AMAZING and FUN week long cheese curd festival the 3rd week of August every year. It will not be back in 2021 giving the current context but lets hope its back in 2022!!! The cheese curd factory also has a painted silo that is part of the POP Silo tour.

Sightseeing

Got a few hours? Take a countryside road trip that will put you on a sensory journey through the Prescott-Russell region. This is a GREAT road trip to take with kids on a rainy day (and make stops on the way to the different attraction) or with friends on a nice day and incorporate stops at local foodies place. POP Silos offers a unique touristic experience in Canada, a self-guided circuit that has visitors discovers ( I believe they now have 9 giant painted murals on farm silos). Take advantage of his countryside roundtrip to get lost in the fields changing colors and be surprise by the silos popping presence. Their is a website to visit and a app to download that lets you plan your road trip perfectly! (Also incorporated in the app are "foodies" stops suggestions all over the Prescott-Russell Region.) Visit them all or choose to do only the closest ones...its up to you! 4 out of the 9 are located no more then in a 15 min drive from the cottage (each)...but doing the entire circuit will take you anywhere from 2-4 hours....depending how long you stop at each.

Water/Boating Launch and sightseeing

Casselman boat launch. Located 5 min drive from the cottage, this is a very nice, safe and free boat launch for any type of boat. The Nation river offers a beautiful scenic ride that can take you all the way to Chrysler (STAY LEFT where the river splits. This will be about 45 min boat ride) or almost to Embrun (Stay right at the river splits. This will be about 15 min boat ride...smaller side...perfect for paddle board, canoe kayak or fishing). Because we care about our "river split" that some call "the fork" please consider slowing down when you get close to it to help prevent the erosion that has been accelerated in recent years because of the increase in boating activities on the river. The section between the river split and the old train tracks is also the popular spot for water activities because it is wider and in the winter, you will find close to 80 fishing huts on the ice!
