High quality, sustainably minded sushi, they don't serve anything on the Monterey Bay watch list. Actual wasabi root is grown on the Oregon coast and a MUST(not powdered/dyed paste): it's free at the sushi bar, other seats you must request and pay extra.

Light and fresh Italian in an intimate setting—less American standard fare. Handmade pasta and smaller dishes, the farro pie antipasti and octopus salad are standouts.

Pizza that is more like a dense cornbread with toppings, great salads. The corn and caramelized onion is far better than it sounds.

Drinks & Nightlife

Dive just a few blocks away, good for greasy food and a drink at the bar or in a booth, it's a larger place, I stay in the room you enter from the sidewalk.

One of Portland's best bars/where a lot of the city's bartenders drink. Rum isn't typically on my list but the Dealer's Choice daiquiri never disappoints.

Shopping

It's more at PSU/Portland State University than Shemanski Park. Groundwork Organics is where I get my veggies. Fressen for bavarian croissants (made with a pretzel dough). Winters Farm for berries. Go early for a great selection and to beat the crowds, the market opens at 8:30a in the spring and summer, 9a in the more "offseason"
