Franconia Notch State Park is located in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest. Franconia Notch is a spectacular mountain pass traversed by a unique parkway which extends from the Flume Gorge at the south to Echo Lake at the north. For eight miles, I-93 winds between the high peaks of the Kinsman and Franconia mountain ranges. Franconia Notch was the home of the famous Old Man of the Mountain, the same "Great Stone Face" immortalized by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Daniel Webster. While you are here, stop at the Flume Gorge Visitor Center and walk through the renowned Flume Gorge, ride the exciting aerial tramway at Cannon Mountain, and visit the New England Ski Museum. Take your time, stop for a swim at Echo Lake, net a trout while fly fishing at Profile Lake, ride your bike on the Recreational Trail, watch for rock climbers, hawks, and falcons on Cannon Cliffs, or hike on the Appalachian Trail. Bring the family, stay awhile, and enjoy Franconia Notch State Park.

As far as waterfalls, our favorites are in Crawford Notch–heading Eastbound on 302. There's a couple right on the side of the road as you decend in Crawford Notch, but one of our top favorites is on the other side of the notch - Arethusa Falls. It takes about 2 hours total (roundtrip) to hike, and culminates with the tallest waterfall in NH. Worth the moderate hike! If you prefer something a bit easier, Ripley Falls, just before Arethusa, is a 0.5 mile trip each way, and also quite spectacular, especially in the late spring and early summer. In the North Conway area, Diana’s Baths on West Side Road is also always popular, and a very easy hike. Great spot for a dip in the cool mountain water, as well

Wildcat Mountain is a long ridge consisting of five subpeaks named, from north to south: Wildcat A (4422 feet) Wildcat B (4330 feet) Wildcat C (4298 feet) Wildcat D (4062 feet) and Wildcat E (4046 feet) For peakbaggers, the two that count on the New Hampshire 4000 footer list are Wildcat A and Wildcat D. The mountain provides some interesting and challenging hiking, but what it has to offer more than anything else is the spectacular view of the Presidential Range. Just a few miles to the west lies Mt. Washington, and the view from Wildcat is straight into Tuckerman Ravine and Huntington Ravine. Several other lesser New Hampshire and Maine ranges are also visible from the many lookouts along the Wildcat Ridge Trail, which is also the Appalachian Trail. Sebago Lake in Maine and the Atlantic Ocean are visible on the clearest days. The mountain is a good day hike. A loop of the ridge requires a car spot at the trail ends.

The most popular waterfall of the Pinkham Notch area is the 64-foot plunge known as Glen Ellis Falls. With a fine spray of water throughout the warmer months, this waterfall attracts thousands of vacationers from all over. A short walk down a series of staircases will get your blood pumping on the way back up, but this waterfall is well worth it.

Mount Jefferson is the third highest peak in New Hampshire, after its two bigger neighbors, Mount Washington to the south and Mount Adams to the northeast. Like them, it rises almost 1,000 feet above treeline, with spectacular views. It is more easily accessible (in summer) than Mount Adams, so is likely to be more crowded.

A local favorite with a huge menu. From the outside, Grandma's Kitchen looks like just another rural restaurant or diner. And yes, the interior is instantly familiar, with its handful of booths, its counter and stools, and its screened-in porch in the back for those warm sunny days during the summer. But the food at Grandma's Kitchen is well above that of many other diners and family restaurants in the Granite State, and has actually been recognized by a national magazine as one of a handful of places to check out in New Hampshire. And yes, the food at Grandma's Kitchen is fabulous.

This brewpub is built into an 18th century grist mill on the Ammonoosuc River, with a focus on European-style craft beer and wood-fired artisan pizza. While surrounded by the clean, rustic vibes at Schilling, its easy to feel like you really are somewhere in Europe enjoying the best brew you’ve ever tasted. There is also an adjacent tasting room with a deck, and a seasonal food truck that serves burgers, dogs, and poutine. Park on Mill Street or park at the end of Riverglen Drive so you can walk across the covered bridge to get there. Schilling is worth the drive, and there are plenty of little shops to enjoy on Littleton’s Main Street as well. (30 min away via 116 W)
