Best damn coffee ever! Terrific peeps too. It is why we are serving their coffee in the crib. Their Mad Eggs turns some terrific egg dishes. Our personal favorite, the Chorizo burrito. Warning: they sell baked goods too!

Ice cream! Now at a new location in the heart of the town of charming Oxford. Same good ice creams, but with a town park across the street with water views, and a swing set! We loved the old location, but this spot ain't bad and may well better for their business. Seasonal, but maybe not!

Right on the water in the wonderful town of Oxford. A cold beer or cocktail, crabs, oysters, boats and folks. Be with the boats in a contemporary setting. Indoors or out...we always aim for out. The Scottish Highland Creamery, which shared the building relocated into town. Open seasonally.

Hole in the wall, breakfast joint. This small place is tucked in the back, hidden near the parking lots behind the string of buildings along Washington, just south of Dover (Look behind the Talbot Historical Society building.). The white toast is fresh-made, and is as addicting as crack cocaine. The eggs and breakfast meats are very good, service is casual, and the coffee is good. I'll give this joint the "Best Breakfast!" thumb's up. This is where the locals go. Simple and space is limited.

It's a trendy, pricy, and tasty restaurant. Nice atmosphere, the menu has wide appeal; the wines are good, meals are savory and their chewy bread is absolutely delightful. It's a popular spot on the main road of St. Michaels.

Got the munchies? Need something in the car as you go touring about Talbot County? A fast cup of coffee? Or how about an entire pre-made meal? ES, as we C3 cyclists commonly refer to it is the ace in our hand. Their slant is towards the healthy diet, be it vegan, gluten-free, or just balanced. And they make a damn-fine cookie. ES is about a 1/2 mile from the crib.

Okay...so we're very friendly with these proprietors, but we also love this family owned business's ice cream, located in the heart of downtown Easton. Taking a stroll around the block? A cone is the perfect accompaniment.

A new favorite of ours! Our bad...it took us years before we stepped over their threshold. All those opportunities for excellent Italian...lost. Nightly specials, tight menu, delicious wines, very friendly staff, and a little Italian restaurant atmosphere. Make reservations! We're making up for lost time with this place. Don't let its location fool you.

Residing within the ground floor of the Tidewater Inn, this is the pushpin location of Easton, the center location, the heart, of town. The food and service is very good. Maybe not particularly exciting fare, but reliable and tasty. The outdoor dining is the best during the warmer weather, made even better during the summer Saturday's when the street concerts are in swing. Umm...good luck with reservations, but if made early...you won't be disappointed. The bar is well stocked and definitely worthy of a visit. You can expect the big inn restaurant atmosphere.

Oh, the cheese! Umm...there's more to this place. Both a market and casual restaurant, it serves top quality Italian sandwiches, salads, soups and cheese! They have wine, coffee, non-alcoholic beverages (I think!), and nibbles you can take with you, should you wish to picnic. This place makes me miss NYC a little less.

Sometimes a place offers more than its menu. Doc's is rusting in charm, out in Oxford. The food is summer bar food fare, but it's the vibe, the view, the cold beer that pulls this spot together. Terrific sunsets, sometimes live music, it's seasonal. I've had better food, but you know what I mean about this place.

Easton has fresh bagels too! The Bagery offers a wide variety of bagels and other baked goods, breakfast/meal bagel sandwiches, Rise Up coffee, and offers plenty of indoor seating. It's where I go to meet up with my local pals and attempt to solve society's ills.

Open until 2AM Thursday thru Saturday!? And only 3/4's of a mile away from the crib! And this place is fun and has very good meals! Too often we have guests coming to stay with us for the weekend and they arrive late, unable to get away from the office early. Here's the solution for a bite if you're REALLY late and hungry. As a suggestion, we like their chicken on a stick, the tempura broccolini and the baja bowl.

This little warm weather restaurant is really charming. Tucked away so as you can barely see it, it has scenes of S.M.'s harbor and town park. A warning: if there's live music, try to avoid those tables closest to the stage, especially if you wish to talk and be heard. Otherwise, I'm 2 thumbs up.

A relatively new restaurant here in Easton, its space is both dark and warm. We've now been there a few times and the food and service has been very good. It's almost a mile away from us, but the directions are easy, walk down Aurora St. for most of that distance and there's the restaurant on the corner Dover, the cross street. No particular dinner item stands out, they're all very good, but for the dessert...order the churros. Be prepared for the dark dining room environment and be prepared to read from a dark menu. Your phone will help you. Very pleasant staff, good drinks, terrific tacos, nice sized main meals, and a shared pastry to dip in a hot chocolate sauce... it's a winner!

Definitely one of our go-to lunch spots. Salads and sandwiches are the norm, but there are main courses, soups and daily specials too. it's at the counter service, no wait staff, but its casual nature is just as much part of its charm. If you are enjoying a beautiful day, this is the lunch for you.

The entertainment backbone to Easton. When we were considering moving here, it was the Avalon that helped seal the deal. The Avalon is two venues in one; there's the main stage, and then there's the Stoltz Listening Room for smaller shows. https://tickets.avalontheatre.com/

Sightseeing

There are places to visit and ways in which to get there. Here are some, ask and I can offer others.
The Eastern Shore's Everglades equivalent, here's a beautiful spot where the marshland meets the bay and the sky. Bald Eagles, Snow Geese, Osprey, Herons, and Egrets take time to reside here. While taking in the natural setting...imagine this...Harriet Tubman's Underground Railroad had to traverse this environment at its start.

Better than viewing the water from the edge, here’s a brief opportunity to take a brief 10 minute boat ride, with your car, on the Tred Avon River, linking one finger of land to another. There’s no finer way to travel to both Oxford and St. Michaels in one car ride. Or ride your bicycle to either point and take the 10 break before resuming your journey. I’ve done it a dozen times. It is a seasonal operation.

City/town information

A twenty minute drive south from Easton is the historic town of Cambridge, MD. Once a busy port where Chesapeake watermen sold their catch of oyster, crab, and fish, this community has had its successes and struggles, up until today. The Choptank River slowly drifts by the old homes that say as much about the area as its people. It certainly is worth a visit if you're heading the Blackwater Refuge or the Harriet Tubman Museum.

A twenty minute drive, Oxford is quiet and charming community located at the end of a finger. The residents out there like it quiet. There are a few spots out there to grab a bite, but what we like...the community has saved some spots where visitors can look out over the waters there.. There's also the Oxford Ferry, providing service to another finger of land where St. Michaels is located. The seasonal ferry offers a 10 minute boat ride, your car is welcome to come along, and what better way to then drive on to St.Michaels. Honestly, this is a must-do.

I liken St. Michaels to Martha's Vineyard, for the D.C/Baltimore set. It's the most touristy of the county's three major towns, and not necessarily in a bad way. There's oodles of charm, so too restaurants, bars, and such. Really, if you're visiting to explore Talbot County, this is a charming town you have to include.

Tunis Mills is my back door ride for 20+/- mile loop. In a mile I can be on back roads. In three...there'll barely be any cars. This route has it all: woods, farmland, and water views. If you're looking for alternatives, such as shorter village rides, let's talk.

This route is designed more for the road bike crowd, willing to ride more than 30 miles. There's getting through Easton and crossing Route 50 at two traffic lights, but beyond that...there's plenty of elbow room and quiet roadways.

Eastern Shore Sunsets

It was one of the factors I simply overlooked when we decided to move to the Eastern Shore, its sky. We have beautiful, sometimes very dramatic skies. Looking to expand on this guide, I happened to ask a cycling pal I was riding with what gem of scenery or place she could offer that our crib guests might enjoy. She said sunsets and I completely agreed. So you will see throughout this guide mentions of sunsets and the places to find them.
