The Dalí Museum celebrates the life and work of Salvador Dalí (1904-1989) and features works from the artist’s entire career. The collection includes over 2,400 works from every moment and in every medium of his artistic activity, including oil paintings, many original drawings, book illustrations, artists’ books, prints, sculpture, photos, manuscripts and an extensive archive of documents. Founded with the works collected by A. Reynolds and Eleanor Morse, the Museum has made significant additions to its collection over the years, celebrating the life and art of one of the most influential and innovative artists in history. In 1942, the Morses visited a traveling Dalí retrospective at the Cleveland Museum of Art organized by the Museum of Modern Art in New York and became fascinated with the artist’s work. On March 21, 1943, the Morses bought their first Dalí painting, Daddy Longlegs of the Evening, Hope! (1940). This was the first of many acquisitions, which would culminate 40 years later in the preeminent collection of Dalí’s work in America. On April 13, 1943, the Morses met Salvador Dalí and his wife Gala in New York initiating a long, rich friendship. The Morses first displayed their Dalí paintings in their home, and by the mid-1970s decided to donate their entire collection. A Wall Street Journal article titled, “U.S. Art World Dillydallies Over Dalí,” caught the attention of the St. Petersburg, FL community, who rallied to bring the collection to the area. The Dalí Museum, St. Petersburg, FL opened in 1982. The distinguished new building, which opened on January 11, 2011, enables the Museum to better protect and display the collection, to welcome the public, and to educate and promote enjoyment. In a larger sense it is a place of beauty dedicated, as is Dalí’s art, to understanding and transformation.

n 2016, founder, philanthropist, artist and business woman, Trish Duggan, determined to open a museum in St. Petersburg, FL as a way to give back to the community. Her goal was to put together a collection of artworks and promote an experience that would inspire, uplift and educate. As a woman already working with glass for her personal art, Ms. Duggan determined that the properties of glass and glass art would provide such an experience. BUILDING A COLLECTION The President of Michigan-based Habatat Galleries, Corey Hampson, teamed up with Ms. Duggan to realize an ever-expanding vision of creating the most significant collection of contemporary glass art in the world. The beginning collection of 500 artworks represented the American Glass Family Tree relating to the Studio Glass Movement, beginning in the 1960s through to today. The collection has now expanded to over 1,500 spectacular contemporary glass art works representing artists from America, Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and Australia, to name a few. Ms. Duggan aspires to build a collection and a museum that inspires and uplifts all who experience it.

Wild Child, the new neighborhood restaurant and bar from Reinsmith and the Bends owner Matt Kaye, it features a cocktail list heavy with tropical influence, with a focus on mezcal- and tequila-based drinks. The food menu will skew tropical, too, inspired by a “global coastal” theme, with influences from Florida’s west coast and the Caribbean as well as Portugal, Spain, Costa Rica and the Yucatan. The décor features a large coral-hued graphic mural from Miami artist Jessy Nite, and evokes a strong tropical vibe. This bistro and cocktail bar has an incredibly diverse seasonal menu, serving tomato and peach salads alongside “KFC” Korean fried chicken sandwiches. The restaurant also features a covered patio area to help you escape the Florida heat. This is one of my favorite restaurants on Summer's St Pete Selects.

One of the high scale favorites on Summers St Pete Selects is Brick & Mortar. This is a true food lovers and "cooks" restaurant specializing in rustic yet elegant flavors, food made by hand, unique wines and craft beer. If you are on a tight budget this is not the place to go. But if you want to experience great, service. great food, and have a great experience, this is the place to go.

If you're in the mood for something more friendly on the pocket-book yet still satisfying in the belly, head on down to Bodega at their new location at 1180 Central Ave. Famous for their Latin street fare, fresh juices and smoothies, and range of mouth watering sandwiches which are each under $10. They have everything from vegan friendly options to their famous lechon platter and Cuban sandwich. (Fun Fact: did you know the Cuban sandwich was accredited to be invented in Tampa Bay by early Cuban immigrants working the cigar factories?) You can Indulge in a budget friendly meal inside, donned by murals completed by a local St. Pete artists. Or take in the light breeze outside, dining al fresco and watching the locals stroll by on Central Ave. Or choose to take it to go and head across the street to Green Bench Brewery to sip on a cold Skyway IPA while you relax in their dog (and kid) friendly beer garden. Local's tip: If you visit Bodega in the evenings after 5PM during the weekend, be sure to sneak a peek of the intimate Havana inspired speakeasy cocktail Bar behind the back wall by the restrooms called, Bar Chica. "A little brass birdie said there is a hidden door in the back of Bodega, slide it open and see what's in store"

The St. Petersburg Pier, officially known as the St. Pete Pier, is a landmark pleasure pier extending into Tampa Bay from downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. Over the years several different structures have been built at the same location. The most recent structure, the third owned by the city, was a five-story inverted pyramid-shaped building, designed by St. Petersburg architect William B. Harvard, Sr. That Inverted Pyramid Pier was closed in 2013, and the new 26-acre Pier District opened on July 6, 2020. The $92 million dollar project includes five restaurants, a playground, an environmental education center, and numerous artworks including work by Xenobia Bailey, Nathan Mabry, Nick Ervinck, and a large sculpture entitled Bending Arc by Janet Echelman.
