Parks & Nature

A tan solo 15 minutos del centro de Valencia se encuentra uno de los enclaves naturales más importante de Europa: El Parque Natural de la Albufera. Atardeceres sublimes. Valencia’s Albufera Natural Park The park is home to the largest lake in Spain and one of the most important wetland areas in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a place of great ecological interest with rare species of wading birds and a rich variety of wildlife. Its waters have been traditionally worked by fishermen and rice growers, supplying ingredients and inspiration for many of the regions most succulent dishes. To sample the best of the local gastronomy, go to the village of El Palmar, a setting for many of the works of Blasco Ibáñez. It is an excellent place to try classic dishes such as Paella, Arroz a Banda, or All i Pebre made with eels freshly caught from the lake. After the meal, there is nothing more relaxing than a boat trip on the Albufera lake contemplating the red and amber tones of the setting sun dancing across the water. HOW TO GET THERE You can get there by taking the number 25 bus, run by the municipal transport company EMT. These buses will take you to El Palmar and El Perellonet from Valencia city centre in under an hour, for just €1.50 each way. Get off at the Embarcadero or El Palmar bus stops to enjoy a boat trip across Albufera lake on a traditional boat.

The Plaza Redonda is one of those little corners of Valencia that possess a special kind of charm, much appreciated by tourists, visitors and residents alike. Easily accesible from San Vincente Mártir street, this square is one of the many must-visit sites in the city. It's a small interior square surrounded by small and narrow streets, inviting you to explore the old quarter. 'Redonda' means round and this "square" is in fact circular in shape. Every Sunday morning it turns into an improvised marketplace where you will find everything from everyday items to the most unexpected: from inexpensive clothing to pets, keepsakes, or religious stamps and statuettes. There are also some stands where you can find typical white and blond lace open throughout the week. Later and after a bit of shopping, you can relax at any of the wide assortment of restaurants and "tapas" bars available.
