If you fancy stunning panoramic views of the city and coastline and are up for a bit of climb but can't face the full hike of Arthur's Seat, Calton Hill is a great one for you! Calton Hill is easily accessed. It takes about five minutes to get to the top from the staircase at Regent Road on the South side, Royal Terrace on the North side. Insider knowledge - This is where most of those famous photos of Edinburgh's skyline that you have most likely been looking at were taken. Calton Hill is also famous for its collection of historic monuments, which form some of the most important landmarks of the city. One of the most striking is the National Monument, inspired by the Parthenon in Athens. They ran out of money half way through building it which is why it was never completed; the local's call it Edinburgh Disgrace.

Formerly the Dean Galleries, in Edinburgh, is one of the two buildings housing the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, one of Scotland's national art galleries. These two impressive buildings Modern One & Modern Two sit opposite one an other and for the grounds alone can make a great afternoon out. The galleries are within walking distance, there are a number of ways to get there but most enjoyable would be via the Water Of Leith walkway.

A rain jacker and umbrella is always helpful.

We do get some lovely sunny days here in Edinburgh, specially in summer. But as the locals say "if you let the rain stop you, you'll never get anything done". So make sure you've got your rain jacker and umbrella and you'll be good to go!
