Delicious casual Indian eatery owned by the delightful Dinesh and Chef Nidhi (try her veggie samosa! they are life...). I often meet friends there to dine in around 8ish on Saturdays so we can hang out with the owners when they close since they're closed and off on Sundays.

Homey and quirky, this is my annual New Year's Day tradition. No matter how hungover I am or am not, my girlfriends and I welcome the new year with a trip to the US Botanic Gardens to see what new structures have been added to their Plant Based DC Landmarks Exhibit, sip boozy hot cocoa or cider from our thermoses, and trip the light fantastic over to Bantam King to sober up ad fill our bellies.

It's a super bougie, kind of expensive bar but the views of DC are pretty stellar and their frose was one of the best I've had in a while.

I'm not a huge fan of the Wharf and miss the rugged old days before all the expensive high rises took over the original infrastructure but the sandwiches at Grazie Grazie are top notch and filling. I'm working my way through the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Stick to chips for a side, though.

DELICIOUS Sammies. probably the only thing worth going out to Georgetown for. If, and only if, you're already out that way, consider Thomas Sweet for ice cream. They're great but any of the Jeni's locations or Larry's in Dupont are just as good (also born and bred truly local to the DC area) and WAY easier to get to.

Awesome addition to the Noma/Old City neighborhood. They are one stop shop for delicious but reasonably priced foods (particularly their pizzas, which use decades, old sourdough starter and are made from scratch), gourmet groceries, parking pass printing, and luggage storage. Locally owned small business and managed by an awesome LGBTIQA+ crew.

The Atlas District (aka H St Corridor) and free trolly are a vibrant reminder of how DC has changed in the last 10 years. We even have our own festival every year with GoGo music, venders from all around, and food and drink stands lining the 12 block stretch of NE DC. This is my hood!

Initiative 71

DC's local marijuana legislation initiative, "Initiative 71", pass in 2015. It is now legal to possess up to 2 oz of weed in public, consume weed on private property, and grow your own in your primary residence. You must be 21 years of age. The one weird caveat is that federal property and grounds are NOT under DC law so be conscious of your location. And it is technically illegal to sell and buy marijuana and it's paraphernalia. You'll see CBD shops and "free sample with purchase" offers. Reach out for recommendations.

Summer Storms

Don't let the forecast fool you into a false sense of summer bliss. Summer storm season commonly gives us a daily dose of rain that will sweep in without much warning, bluster and drench us, and disappear just as quickly. And it's not a city-wide storm. The 2023 season has been especially wet and surprisingly stormy but it's generally the nature of DC summers. I've left my house for a less than 10 block ride to do something and it's been blue skies and dry pavement at home but pouring rain at my destination. Come prepared for midday wardrobe changes and getting caught in storms.
