Wallingford is an ancient town in Oxfordshire besieged by Vikings, a place worth visiting. Lots of cafes and shops, lovely craft shops and privately owned boutiques. A walk by the river is recommended.

The mansion, abandoned due to rising costs, was demolished in 1972, allowing Wallingford Castle to be declared a scheduled monument as well as a Grade I listed building. The castle grounds, including the remains of St Nicholas College, two sections of castle wall and the motte hill, are now open to the public.

A must see if you have the time, it's less than a 10 minute walk away from my front door. The green mounds in the castle gardens were once the site of one of the strongest and most important castles in England. There are information boards to tell you more! And if history is not your thing, then still make the effort as you have a fantastic view over Wallingford skyline at the top of the mount.
