Punta Laguna is a large expanse of forest set around a beautiful fresh water lagoon, ideal for swimming. There are kayaks, a zip line, cenote that you repel into to swim so you can spend a whole afternoon there. The highlight however, it the large group of wild spider monkeys that we have have been studying for over 15 years

Go either early morning 6 - 8 or after 3 pm when you have highest chance to see the monkeys. One of the last places with pristine jungle and old trees. Zip line, repealing to cenote, canoe on the lake. All money stays in local community for further protection of spider and hauler monkeys.

This village offers the interesting blend of research and tourism. A group of biologists have been researching the spider monkeys here for more than 20 years. They work with the community in monitoring the monkey population (there are also howler monkeys) and the people of the town offer tours through the habitat as an income generator. You can also rent canoes and paddle out onto the laguna. Lakes are rare things in the Peninsula. There is zipline fun for thrill seekers...a restaurant if reservations are made in advance, and some handmade things for sale.

Punta Laguna is a small Maya village located on the edge of a beautiful natural protected area containing forest and lagoon but the primary focus at Punta Laguna is spider monkeys.
