Houtbay is the most under rated suburb in the southern surburbs. It is the most beautiful and tranquil on this side of Table Mountain. Living in Houtbay is very safe, very clean and also very friendly. Almost everything is within a walking distance. Living in this neibourhood gives you a feel of city life mixed with equestrian life as you will often experience teenagers on horses doing a trail from time to time. We have squirrels that also roam the streets and give you a mini twerk of their fluffy tails, only if you ask nicely. Cyclists from others parts of Cape Town ride through Houtbay as they climb Chapman's Peak drive, so you will always see a peloton or 5 on a daily basis. It is very safe to ride and walk here with dedicated cycling lanes for cyclists up the mountain. The Houtbay harbour is the most vibrant of harbours in Cape Town. You can climb aboard a boat to visit seal island from the harbour costs from R80 a ride, now thats a steal! The iconic chapman's peak drive is within a walking distance from any part of Hout Bay. You can cycle , walk or drive this iconic pass with breath taking views. For your shopping needs, mainstream mall located at the foot of chapman's peak drive has quaint coffee shops and many great restaurants. On weekends, the houtbay harbour market is open on fridays until sunday where you can enjoy local and international delicacies, purchase trendy locally crafted clothing, bags and shoes alike while listening to live music and making new friends over a craft beer or select wines from our exquisite wine farms. The Houtbay yatch club has an oyster special every saturday for R120 you get 6 oysters and a glass of chenin /chardanay. The clay cafe is an attraction for most locals in Cape Town, located in Houtbay you can visit this cafe and take part in ceramic building while enjoying a light lunch in this tranquil valley, giving you a forest life feeling. Craft workshop for hand painting & firing pottery, with a restaurant & outdoor playground for kids. For outdoor lovers, you can find multiple hiking trails with the iconic and popular Chapman's Peak Hiking trail North, "One of Cape Towns best locations and the trails are visible and accessible. This hike is so beautiful, you will feel like you are literally in the clouds with lush fynbos, mountain and sea surrounding you while you enjoy this hike. Heaven on Earth!!! Pubs, we have loads of small and quaint pubs in Houtbay, the most popular being a German pub located at the foot of Chapman's peak drive called Zur Holzbucht which means "Houtbay" in German. Lol. There is comedy nights on the last Thursday of the month at this pub showcasing Cape Town's finest comedic talent hosted by yours truly (me). Famous Fish and Chips restaurants, we have the Mariner's Wharf and Snoekies which drive traffic into Houtbay from all parts of Cape Town. There are close to 8 fish and chips restaurants in Houtbay, selling only the best fish. Catch of the Day You can buy fresh fish from the harbour from the friendly fish shop where the fish is cut and cleaned for you while you peek at interesting items on sale from a nearby market stall. We have a local seal in town named Mr Brown, he is the main attraction at the harbour on most days. Tourists/visitors to our harbour can take pics with him and show off to your friends. On Saturdays, there is a marimba band that plays music to guest, creating a very festive vibe in the harbour. There is so much to experience in this beautiful suburb. I am currently curating unique Houtbay experiences for guests to my town. From township tours, hiking tours and special pub/restaurants crawls. Look out, coming soon. Welcome to Houtbay and I hope you enjoy your stay with us.
