The Venetian fortress in Pula was built on the most important strategic site of Pula Bay, on a hill where former Histri located its castle, the Roman castrum, and the feudal gentleman's medieval castle. The fort was designed and guided by the construction of the Venetian republic, the French military engineer Antoine De Ville between 1631 and 1633.
