Connects as a high alpine mountain road the two Austrian provinces of Salzburg and Carinthia. It leads from Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße via the two mountain passes Fuscher Törl and Hochtor (tunnel portal 2504 m above sea level, historical pass height 2576 m above sea level) to Heiligenblut am Großglockner and has branches to the Edelweißspitze and Kaiser-Franz-Josefs- Height. It is the highest fortified pass road in Austria. The Großglockner High Alpine Road is primarily an adventure road of tourist importance
