Kaņieris castle mound near Lake Kaņieris was discovered by V.Dērings in 1867. Much has been written about it, but it has not been studied archaeologically. E.Brastiņš has recognized this castle mound as unusual, because it is the only castle mound that is located so close to the sea in a swampy and uninhabited place.
