Learn about ancient Hawaiians and their Place of Refuge. Afterwards, leave your car in the parking lot and go snorkeling at 2 Step right next door!

30 mins away Place of Refugee in Honaunau is a real opportunity to learn some Hawaiian history. Visit 2Step beach while you’re there, you may swim with the dolphins!

This is a great place to visit. It is a national park that has a lot of the Hawaiian history and culture. it is also a great place to to snorkel, which is located right outside the park inn the same area. This is a popular place so parking is limited . It's very hot here so make sure you bring enough water to stay hydrated. Also bring your sun screen because it's very sunny with minimal shade. Try to use the sun screen that is reef safe. There's a lot of living coral there which is why the snorkeling is so good. There's not very much sand there so be careful getting in and out of the water. Also, keep an eye out on where you step coming in and out of the water because we have sea urchins there called wana that can poke you.

This is a historic site where ancient chiefs would gather and there is a self-guided tour that explains ancient Hawaiian culture, beliefs and history. There is also some of the best snorkeling in all of Hawaii at "Two Step." It can be a challenge to get in and out but is well worth the experience. You may be able to swim with some spinner dolphins if you get there in the morning.
