Right at the heart of Mangalore, there is an old home with a red-tiled roof, surrounded by tall mango, pepper, jackfruit & nutmeg trees, a beautiful pond with a bridge and the sounds of birds chirping. When you walk in, you will have travelled back in time; with Buddha welcoming you at the gate, a path leading you to a lush green flower garden, a home filled with paintings by local artists and art by local artisans. This is what Harsha DSouza envisioned for his 92-year-old father’s ancestral home. He wanted every Mangalorean to experience a real Mangalore, not just in photographs. Walk in and you will be greeted with some jaggery and water, just like the good old days. Have a seat in the little portico lit up with bamboo lamps, take a stroll through and see what our fellow Mangalorean artists are capable of, walk into the next room and be taken back to those years when you walked into your grandparents kitchen and smelled the aroma of earthen ware.
